Fall Fashion Trends of 2018

If you are into fashion trends, I am sure you have checked out all of the fall runway looks by now. While the runway looks are beautiful, they are not exactly realistic and practical for us non-models. Using looks from the fall fashion shows as inspiration, I found items that could actually be incorporated into your daily outfits! When buying trendier pieces, I always try to find the cheapest option because they most likely will not become staples in my closet and I will probably end up donating them by next year. I’m pretty pumped about this year’s fall fashion and I am excited to start adding new pieces to my wardrobe!

Plaid

This is my favorite fall fashion trend. I’m seeing so many affordable options in stores already. Blazers, skirts, pants, jackets, anything with a plaid print is so “in” right now. All of you “Clueless” fans are gonna love this trend. The vibrant colored plaid style has been spotted at several different stores, including Target! Personally, I’m a fan of the grungy plaid style and the darker gray and black tones. I just ordered the plaid leggings from Target and am excited to style them!

Animal Print

Leopard and snake prints are the popular ones, but if you prefer zebra go for it! This year, designers got creative with animal print using bright colors and head-to-toe prints. To normalize this style for every day, pick one item and make it a statement piece, such as a snakeskin shoe with jeans and a solid colored top, or a leopard print jacket with an all-black outfit. I’m loving this trend. I have been wearing my leopard print belt with everything lately and I definitely need some animal print shoes in my closet, pronto! (Does anyone else suddenly want to have a Cheetah Girl movie marathon?)

Oversized Coats

This is an easy trend to incorporate in the fall/winter months of Chicago! I am currently loving shearling and faux fur coats for this trend because they give your outfit some texture and are super cozy. Other great options are tweed, leather, check, or plaid which all go along with the trends for this season. A style tip for making jackets more interesting is to layer them. First put on a shorter one such as a denim jacket, then over top, a thinner, longer jacket. A longer jacket may sometimes look like your drowning in it and you might lose your body shape. By layering, the shorter jacket gives your body the illusion of a waist while the longer jacket helps to elongate your body making you seem leaner and taller, plus two coats are warmer than one!

Western

Western wear has never really been my kind of style. You will probably never find me in a pair of cowboy boots. There were some beautiful looks on the runways though; I especially love the Coach outfit. Even though it’s not my style, there are some aspects that I love about this style such as studs, suede, leather, and earthy tones. I have been wanting a western style belt (seen on the Alberta Ferretti model) for a while now so this is a perfect time to buy one! Going along with the western style, flowy prairie dresses, and tall boots were also a recurring trend. I love the free spirit vibe of these looks. Girly, yet still bad-ass.
