Current Favorites: August

And just like that, another month has gone by! I feel like August is just a filler month; it’s not really summer anymore but it’s still way too hot to be considered fall (I’m over this 90-degree stuff, Chicago!). August was a super busy time at work with the new school year starting. Nothing too exciting happened for me this month, but I do have a few new favorites to share! If you want to know about my current favorites, keep reading!

Fashion

With colder weather coming soon, I decided to stock up on some denim while the pre-fall sales were going on. I rounded up a list of all the best denim sales here! Online has great deals, but there are some even better deals in-store. I went into my local mall and bought 3 pairs of Levi’s for $95 total! The original prices were $98 for each pair! I was so proud of my deals and I love the jeans I bought. They fit perfect and are great quality. My absolute favorite is the 501 Taper. I got them in the color So Called Life. Check out this post if you want to read more about my favorite jeans!

Beauty

I am obsessed with the Heimish All Clean Balm. This is a product that I have been using for a few months now and just finished up. I’ve already gone on Amazon and ordered a new one to replace it. It is an oil-based cleansing balm meant to be used as a first cleanser to remove makeup. This thing works so well! It even melts off my long-wearing foundations and waterproof mascaras. You apply this onto your dry face and rub it all around, making sure to rub gently on your eyes and eyelashes. You will look like a sad raccoon for a minute so don’t be alarmed if you look in the mirror! Next, add some water to your hands and continue rubbing until all your makeup is broken down. Then, rinse off and follow with your second cleanser if you choose to use one. You can read more about this cleanser and my favorite Korean skincare products here.

Book

I’m going to be honest, I suck and didn’t finish a book this month. I tried to start, “Home is Where My People Are” by Sophie Hudson, but I can’t call it a favorite. I have less than half of the book left and I can’t get myself to read it anymore. It’s not a poorly written book, it’s just really not my style.  Maybe one day I’ll finish it, but in the meantime, I ordered some new books for fall that I am excited about! Next up is “My Absolute Darling” by Gabriel Tallent.

Music

On August 12th, I saw the band Whitney play a free show at Millenium Park as part of Chicago’s Summer Music Series. I had listened to Whitney before and was not a huge fan or anything, but let me tell you, this band is amazing live! Their recorded songs are good, but in person, their songs had so much more emotion, energy, and oomph. It was such a fun experience and I’m so glad Chicago has these awesome free events! On Spotify, I’ve still been listening to my Feeling This Playlist, but I did add a few new songs so check it out!

Netflix

I started and finished Cable Girls this month. Netflix currently has 2 seasons but season 3 will be out September 7th! Cable Girls (Las Chicas del Cable) is a Netflix produced show set in Spain during the 1920’s, but don’t worry there is an English voiceover so there’s no need for subtitles. The show is about 4 telephone company switchboard operators as they fight for freedom and independence in the workplace and in their daily lives. This is a drama-filled show that touches on some sensitive topics such as abuse, abortion, LGBTQ communities, gender discrimination, and more. There’s romance, there’s mystery, there’s even a murder; what more could you need in a show!

Food

On a Target snack run before a road trip, I found this Tex Mex Trail Mix by Archer Farms. This stuff is so addicting! It’s spicy, but not hot and the perfect amount of saltiness. My friend and I ate half of the tub on our hour car ride, whoops! No, it’s not the healthiest trail mix out there, but it’s better than a bag of Doritos!
