Yes, it’s finally time to break out the fall books! Nothing gets me into the fall mood better than a spooky story. Sure, summer reading by the pool is nice but have you ever cozied up with a blanket, a fireplace, some hot cider, and a good book? My ideal night.

I get so happy and excited when I find a new book that I can’t wait to read. I was searching for a few new books to read this fall and thought someone else might want to see the awesome ones that I found! The following are creepy ghost stories, psychological thrillers, or books that just give me fall vibes. A few of these I have read/currently reading and the rest are still on my reading list (I have a long list, okay!?).

Fall Books 2018

Kill Creek by Scott Thomas

Since it’s release on Halloween of last year, this book has gotten a lot of attention in the horror world. It’s perfect for this time of year! It is a classic horror story written in a more modern time. The story is about 4 authors who are invited to spend Halloween night in a haunted house as a publicity stunt but as you can imagine, things go horribly wrong. Each of the 4 authors gives a different perspective which makes this such a satisfying read. 

 

The Grip of It: A Novel by Jac Jemc

Have you ever heard a creepy noise in your house in the middle of the night and your mind started racing at 100 mph? That is this book times ten. A newly married couple moves into a new house and things start to get weird. Is it really the house or is it all in their minds?

 

A Head Full of Ghosts: A Novel by Paul Tremblay

Schizophrenia, demonic possession, exorcisms, and a reality tv show. Interesting, right?! I’m excited to read this one. Love how it plays into 21st-century life as well as the struggles of mental illnesses.

 

 

Baby Teeth: A Novel by Zoje Stage

A gripping thriller about a troubled young girl who will do anything it takes to win the love of her father and make her mother’s life a living nightmare. Reading the blurb for this book, I kept thinking of the movie, Orphan. Although, I have a feeling this one will have a slightly different ending…

 

Sharp Objects: A Novel by Gillian Flynn

From the author of Gone Girl, this Chicago based author has created a captivating psychological thriller filled with twists and turns. A woman is brought back to her hometown of Chicago for a murder investigation where she has to uncover her unsettling past and deal with her dysfunctional family. The mini-series of this novel is now on HBO, but I always recommend reading the book before you watch the film version!

 

The Wildlands: A Novel by Abby Geni

This novel is not like the others but it seems like a solid story and it was just released on September 4th, so I thought I would give it a shout-out. Although it’s not as creepy as the others on my list, it is still known to be a page-turning thriller that you won’t want to put down. The concepts include family, survival, and standing up for what you believe in.

 

My Absolute Darling: A Novel by Gabriel Tallent

Also, a story if you are one who isn’t into the creepy stuff. This is the one I am currently reading and although I haven’t gotten very far, I’m intrigued to know more about the characters, Martin and Turtle, a father and daughter duo who live in a run-down house in the woods of California.

 

The Outsider: A Novel by Stephen King

Really, any Stephen King novel will do (there’s plenty to choose from). I recently picked up this one because the murder mystery aspect intrigued me. I am also hearing that some super creepy supernatural aspects come about in this book as well. Excited to find out what that is all about.

 

Little Girls by Ronald Malfi

A creepy little ghost story that will keep you up at night. It is about a woman who must revisit her childhood home after her father commits suicide. Things start getting a little eerie in the house; even weirder when a little girl shows up who looks just like a girl who died years ago.

 

 

In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware

A bachelorette party went very, very wrong. This book is suspenseful, thrilling, and one that you won’t want to put down. I true murder mystery book. Not super creepy or scary so perfect if you are not into that sort of thing. This is a good psychological thriller that anyone can read. Definitely recommend. This author also wrote the popular, “The Woman in Cabin 10″, which I’ve been dying to read.
