Earth Day is April 22nd and I challenge you to take some time and think about different ways you can be a little more eco-friendly. Whether it be in your home, your clothing, makeup, or everyday tasks, there is always some area where you can make a change. Big or little, any change can have an impact.
Being eco-friendly can be a daunting task because so many things in everyday life go against nature. Driving a car, shopping at grocery stores, or using any item that was processed in a factory (almost everything in your house probably). My goal is really to become more “environmentally conscious”. I am trying to become more aware of my footprint and notice where I can make an adaption. No, I am not 100% eco-friendly or even 50% for that matter, but being aware is the first step and anything helps!
Here are a few things that I am trying to do

Use Less Paper Products
- These reusable microfiber cloths are great for cleaning up messes around the kitchen, dusting, and general everyday sanitizing
- I use old rags for more dirty jobs such as (pet accidents and bathrooms). You can purchases a new set of cleaning rags here.
- Stock up on hand towels. It’s such a waste to use a whole sheet of paper towel to dry your clean hands! ð
Reusable Straws
- These from Amazon are inexpensive and do the job
- Keep one in your purse, one in your car, one in your work bag, etc.
- Be conscious when at
restaurants and make an effort to tell your waiter to hold the straw, please!
Buy Soap Refills and a Glass Dispenser
- I love my Bath & Body Works Soaps but I started to realized how fast I go through them and how much plastic I was throwing away each time.
- Glass dispensers look so much cuter and classier
- Plus you save money, since you are buying in bulk!
- Try and find refills that include recycled materials in the packaging
Water Bottles
- The easiest thing to change in my opinion! I don’t remember the last time I purchased a plastic single-use water bottle from the grocery store.
- Always carry a reusable water bottle with you. Literally, make it your new fashion accessory. There are some cute ones!
- Remember you can use these at restaurants and at work, too!
- If you don’t have super clean water in your community, invest in a tap adapter or water pitcher that filters your water for you.
Make an Effort with Packaging Materials and Plastic Wrap
- All that plastic packaging that your products come wrapped in from your online shopping, is not recyclable in your curbside bin (in most areas).
- Local grocery stores have special plastic wrap recycling bins for this issue. To find your nearest location, visit PlasticFilmRecycling.org
- So keep a box in your garage and make an effort to collect all that plastic gold and take it to the grocery store with you on your next trip
Reusable Shopping Bags
- Super easy to do, but also super easy to forget
- Buy some cute bags that will make you more likely to use them
- I also just bought these net bags for produce and I love them!
- Keep them in your car at all times
Research More!
- Learn more about brands that make an effort to be eco-friendly
- Makeup, Clothing, Cleaning Supplies, Houseware, and more
- Read inspiring books
- Take this quiz to find out your ecological footprint and see how many Earths we would need if everyone lived like you. Very interesting!
