I’m doing something that scares the heck out of me this month: NO SPEND NOVEMBER. This is where you don’t buy anything that you don’t NEED for one whole month. I got this idea from an Instagram friend, Patti, who has done this in the past. I made up a few “rules” for myself to make it a little more attainable, which I’ll list below. This is going to be a challenge for me because I am a very emotional shopper; whenever I’m feeling a little down, I’ll go hit up TJMaxx for a few hours and I’m good. Also, I am obsessed with sweaters so fall is a terrible time for me to start this challenge.
No Spend November is really scary to me, but Christmas is coming and looking at my bank account is even scarier!!
If you want to do a no-spend month along with me, let me know by leaving a comment or messaging me on Instagram! It would be awesome to do this together to keep each other accountable and give each other tips along the way! Keep in mind, you do not have to start on the 1st of the month and you also do not have to use the same rules as me. Maybe you just want to cut out one of these aspects or maybe you spend your money on something else entirely. Make up your own rules, as long as it is beneficial to YOU!
My Rules:
- No eating out for meals
- No coffee runs (unless its a gift card)
- No clothes, beauty products, or home decor
- Only necessities at grocery stores
Exceptions:
- Going out with friends a few times
- Possibly Black Friday or Cyber Monday (depends on how good the deals are and if its something I would probably buy in the future)
- I’ll probably still order dinner a few times, BUT it has to be with a coupon and a shared meal. (nothing just for myself)
Some Ideas To Keep This Going All Month:
- Unsubscribe from all shopping emails (If I don’t know there’s a sale, I’ll be less tempted to shop!)
- Keep track of everything I would have bought if I wasn’t doing No Spend November to see how much money I really saved. (Hopefully, I’ll realize that I don’t really need those “wanted items” after the month has passed)
- Go through and take inventory of all the food in the house and make the most of it! Look up recipes and get creative to use up those random ingredients
A part of me wishes I knew I was going to do this beforehand because I would have gotten some shopping out my system, but maybe it’s better this way. I probably would have bought things I didn’t need just because I could haha. Now, I’m going all-in with no preparation. We will see how it goes! I will be posting some updates on my Instagram, so follow me there!
Would you be able to do a “No Spend Month?”
