Cape May Travel Guide: What to Eat

Cape May Travel Guide

I ate so much food while on vacation in Cape May that it needs its own post.

What to Eat In Cape May

Let’s get real here, no one wants to cook on vacation… that involves grocery shopping, preparing food, washing dishes..no thank you! Although most rental homes come equipped with fully stocked kitchens, ours is usually just used for a quick snack and maybe one group dinner with the family. With so many great options in town for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, there’s no reason to cook at all!

If you’re wondering what there is to do besides eat… check out my post, Cape May Travel Guide: What to Do

Breakfast/Brunch

  • Blue Pig Tavern. Inside the Congress Hall Hotel. Great spot for weekend brunch. They have a cute patio but the inside is very unique too. Tough choice!
  • McGlades. Right on the beach! Great spot for a basic but delicious breakfast.
  • Zoe’s. Another simple but good breakfast spot. Outdoor seating. In my opinion, McGlade’s is better.
  • Bagel Time Cafe. They have a wide variety of bagels and cream cheeses to mix and match. Easy grab and go place. They definitely do not skimp on the cream cheese either!
  • Mad Batter. Unique and fun spot. They also serve lunch and dinner, plus they have live music most nights.
  • George’s Place. A BYOB and cash-only joint. Their Banana French Toast is calling my name…
  • YB. The “younger brother” of George’s Place. Sadly, I have not eaten here yet but I would like to point out that they have a $9 Unlimited breakfast.

Lunch/Dinner

  • Hot Dog Tommy’s. Cash Only. Love this place. Tommy’s takes the basic hot dog and creates a unique experience with it. I had a Chip and Guac Dog which was surprisingly delicious. The line may be long but don’t give up! It is well worth it. You will need the time to decide which hotdog to get anyways.
  • Louie’s Pizza. I can’t even describe my love for Louie’s to you. Just try it. My favorite is the White Pizza. Also, Garlic Knots!
  • La Doña. A cute little Mexican restaurant by the mall. BYOB. One of my new favorites.
  • Beach Plum Farm. Great for lunch. I ate the Chicken Salad Sandwich then felt insanely sad going to visit with the chickens. I wished I was a vegan right about then. Their fresh Ultimate Green Juice is amazing!
  • Rusty Nail. A go-to hangout. The food may not be the best but the atmosphere is 10/10.
  • Boiler Room. Down in the basement of Congress Hall. Gives a very different vibe from most pubs in Cape May. Pizza, drinks, and entertainment.
  • Harrys. Happy hour 4-6pm. They have a large outdoor eating area, great atmosphere inside, and a rooftop bar. What more do you need?
  • Taco Shop. Located next to the Cape May Brewery. They have a fun hangout area outside with a few games to play or you could grab food to go and eat in the Brewery. The street corn, although messy, was delicious.

Sweets

  • Peace Pie. Ice cream sandwich with a layer of pie filling. Located next to La Doña.
  • Ritas. I know this is a chain and not unique to Cape May, but they are very rare in the Midwest area and it is seriously the best soft serve around. I may or may not have had 6 gelatis in one week…
  • Madison’s Bakery. On Beach Avenue. Great spot for morning coffee, pastries, cakes, and donuts.
  • Cape May Peanut Butter Co. Sample their peanut butter and purchase lots of yummy treats.
  • RSK Donuts. They have cute mini donuts in a variety of flavors. Great for snacking while walking around.
  • The Fudge Kitchen. When I was a kid, the employees would take turns giving out the samples and switch about every 15 minutes. I used to set-up a stake-out on the bench and go up every 15 minutes to get a new sample. But seriously, buy some fudge. They usually have a deal where you buy 2 lbs. and get a free box of salt water taffy.
